Learners do not all show understanding in the same way or at the same time. Some express an idea confidently, while others need time to reflect, draw, build, practise or talk it through.
Recognising strengths does not mean avoiding difficult work. It means using what a learner can already do as a starting point for the next challenge, while providing support where it is needed.
Specific feedback is often more useful than a broad label. Explaining what worked, why it worked and what to try next gives learners practical information they can use.
